Dear Friends,

With this ref. please publish it in your publication.
Universal love is the source of National Flag & Emblem of India
by Sona Kanti Barua

The Wheel of the Dhamma (Dhamma chakra), the universal Truth as comprehended by the Gautama Buddha (Siddhartha) on His attaining Supreme Enlightenment and the Dhamma as taught by Him subsquently.
The adhoc committee dealt with the design of the wheel on 18 July 1947. This meeting is very significant. The President was in the chair. Pandit  Jawaharlal Nehru was espicially invited and he has moved the resolution in following terms, "In the centre of the white band, there shall be a wheel in navy blue to present the Chakra. The design of the wheel shall be of the Wheel (chakra) which appears on the anacus of the Saranath Lion Capital of Asoka."
Mohammad Sadulla now turns to the Dharmachakra of Asoka who symbolizes the principle of morality in his governance. "He ruled not for his personal aggrandizement but for the contenment, peace and prosperity of the people under his charge." Philosopher Dr. Radhakrisnan, in his speech emphasized on virtue. Purity and goal of truth cannot be achieved without recourse to virtue and he said, "The Asoka's Wheel represents to us the wheel of the Law, the wheel of Dharma. Truth can be gained only by the pursuit of the path of Dharma, by the practice of virtue, Truth-Satya, Dharma. Virtue these ought to be the controling principles of all those who work under the flag"
India has a symbol over 2,300 years old at the centre of its safforn, white and green tricolor flag. It is the Dharma (Truth) Chakra or "Wheel of Law" of the Buddha as recognized by the Emperor Asoka, who ruled India from 264 B.C.E. The Wheel symbolizes orderly changes (Paticca Samuppada) in the Flag and Emblem of India.
Buddhism invites anyone to come and see for himself and permits him to accept only those facts which agree with reason, logic and truth. It encourages the seeker of a new way to discard heresies, blind faith, miracles and magic. Principles of Buddhism invite criticism and testing. Buddhism is therefore, the most appealing and most compelling factor that leads the modern minds in the East and West.
