Sylhet, May 22 (bdnews24.com)

 — Investigators of the International Crimes Tribunal have found more evidence on crimes against humanity committed in Sylhet during the 1971 Liberation War.

Abdur Razzak Khan, member of a team, said this at a press conference on the third day of its four-day investigation in the division on Sunday.

The four-member team is headed by former inspector general of police Mohammad Abdul Hannan Khan. The other members are Abdul Mannan, Monwar Hossain and Abdul Awal.

Team coordinator Abdul Hannan Khan declined to talk about the details of their work for the sake of investigation.

The team members in the morning recorded the testimonies of those who survived two major genocides – one at Adityapur on June 14 and another at Burunga on May 26 during the war.

They visited a mass grave adjacent to Adityapur Government Primary School under Sadar Union of Balaganj upazila around 11am.

They talked to Kankan Sen and freedom fighter Hirendra Kumar Das, who survived the mass killings on June 14, and other villagers.

Later, they visited another mass grave adjacent to Burunga Government Primary School and talked to some people, including Sreenibas Chakravarty and Adhiram Malakar, survivors of the May 26 mass killing.

The ICT team started investigation in Sylhet division on Friday. They worked in Habiganj on the fist day and later reached Sylhet at night.

Mannan at a press conference on Saturday said they found the evidence of crimes against two top Jamaat leaders of the district unit – former MP Fariduddin Chowdhury and Sylhet (south unit) party chief Habibur Rahman.

On Saturday, the team visited three killing grounds – one at Tamabil upazila, another nearby the Meteorology Office of Shahi Eidgah area and the third one adjacent to Shaheed Shamsuddin Hospital at Chauhatta of the city.

On Mar 25 last year, the government formed the tribunal, widely known as war crimes tribunal, to try those involved in crimes committed during the war.

It has so far arrested five top Jamaat leaders and two senior BNP leaders.
