I have done some soul-searching observation, and have come up with the following conclusion. Our modern religious figures are - 1) leading a life of falsehood, and 2) they are down-right ordinary folks, acting like super-star in the society. Many of those religious figures are ignorant of most of the things we deal with everyday. Many of them are arrogant and demand undue respect from everybody around them. The only difference between them and us is that they have memorized some verses and stories from some religious books, which most people either do not want to learn or do not have time to learn. It is quite amazing how these modern religious figures easily elevate themselves above everybody else in the society by just memorizing some verses and stories from some religious scriptures. People do not hesitate to put them on the pedestal and even do not mind to worship them either. No one try to reflect back to ask the question - why he/she bows down to them. They never bother to ask what these so called religious figures have offered them in life except bunch of stories. Are these people more important than a doctor or a scientist or a soldier or a motor mechanics or nurses?
These reflections came to my mind after hearing two stories this morning – 1) Imam of a mosque got arrested for molestation of minor boy, and 2) the infamous Moulana Azad (aka, Bacchu Razakar) fled to India to avoid war crimes tribunal. I have heard many such stories of Priests, Gurus, Sadhus also. So, these are universal characteristics of modern day religious figures.
