Where: In front of White House
Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, USA along with temples and community Coalitions from the East Coast, invites you to join our rally in Washington D.C. in protest against the continued attacks on Hindu and other minority communities by the Islamists.
Originally established as a secular democracy, Bangladesh gradually fell into the hands of Islamic fundamentalists who declared Islam as a state religion in 1988, and a systematic erosion of the rights of the religious minorities began. Hindus form the largest religious minority in Bangladesh, comprising about 8.5% of the population according to the 2012 updates, a drastic decline from 20% in 1971.
The current persecution of Hindus of Bangladesh, however, is not a new phenomenon. Attackers are often seeking to exploit any available pretext to grab their land and property. Hindu temples have been desecrated; prominent members of the Hindu community – professors, doctors, engineers, businessmen - have been murdered in cold blood and their homes destroyed; women and young girls have been raped in front of their family members or kidnapped and forcibly converted to Islam; children have been left without their fathers and brothers, and with mothers or sisters whose modesty has been ravaged and dignity stripped away, leaving no hope for their future.
We invite you to join us in expressing our support to the suffering Hindus and other religious minorities in Bangladesh. Your participation in this rally will go a long way in furthering the voice of the Hindus of Bangladesh. Thank you very much for your kind support and we look forward to see you on April 10, 2013
