A foundation pillar of democracy - the separation of judiciary from the executive has been fulfilled in Bangladesh recently. It is a significant accomplishment for the nation. It means greater potential for the rule of law and increased protection of our rights. Justice is greatly strengthened today, perhaps more than at any other time in our history.
Obviously with any change, there will be resistance from those who are entrenched in the old system. On a certain level this is understandable - old habits and old ways of doing things are difficult to change - no matter how good the intentions.
I hope the government and the judiciary will continue to persevere in the practicals steps towards implementing this landmark transition.
