[vinnomot] Courage of Khatib Obaidul Haque [Attention : Mr, Mokarram]

- On Behalf Of Engr.S.A. Morshed

Maulana Obaidul Haque once in a public meeting in the then Manik Mia Avenue (undivided) said:

‘Ekdal lok Gaddarai Kore Pakistan Bengeche”.

The next day almost all the Dhaka Dailies printed the matter expressing the wide range public dissatisfaction to Maulana’s comments.

This was one of the reaons for Awami League to sack the Maulana.

Surprisingly later, the Maulana, like a cheap politician declined to have said so. What a lie!

Indeed, it is of no secret the Maulana was very close ally of the Jamatis.

Courage of Khatib Obaidul Haque [Attention : Mr, Mokarram]

 Dear Mr, Mokarram

(1) Did you ask the Khatib about using purely Persian names which

is not very uncommon in Bangladesh?

     How about Turkish names?

(2) What did khatib do about the eradiction of social evils that are ongoing

in Bangladesh in the name of Islam? [ Mazar worship, Pir puja and

various forms of Shirks that are rampant among the Muslims]

(3) Did the Khatib show any courage to fight against the corruption by

     upper echolon of our society?

(4) Did The Khatib Maulana Obaidul Haque show any courage to

protest against the political use of Islam for narrow personal

goals by the corrupt people? Especially, when Tarek Zia pretended

to be the savior <<image001.jpg>> of  Islam about one year ago at the start of

     electioneering?     [Please see the attachment]

 (5) You maintained "there are few Nastik, Murtad(atheists),

ultra-secularists". Can you elaborate the terms Murtad and

      ultra-secularist?

(6)  Do you know what was the Khatib's role in 1971 ? Did he

not support the regime to keep the integrity of Pakistan?

Have you ever thought about why didn't Allah the Almighty

save the Islamic Republic of Pakistan from all evil designs?

(7) What do you think about seperating politics from religion?

How come, being a majority Muslim country Bangladesh

becomes a leadind corrupt nation in the world?

Dear All
Assalamu Alaikum,
So far we know, Maulana Obaidul Haque is no more with us.I have a small memoir with Maulana Obaidul Haque to share with you.
......................................
It was in 1997 during AL regime, Abdul Gaffar Chow wrote a column in weekly Chalte Patro(edited by Bevuranjan Sarkar, once asst editor of weekly JaiJaiDin). Mr Gaffar wrote "we(bengali muslims) have to take bangla names not arabic. palash, shirir, shimul, pabon, tushar etc etc are right names for bengali muslim"
I read that article in Titumir Hall(BUET) "common room" which created reaction in my mind. I simply took this article to Shah Abdul Hannan Chacha(he was in Sonali-I govt quarter in eskaton garden road) and urged him to make comments on the article of Mr Gaffar. Instantly he called to Maulana Obaidul Haque urging "-----(I forgot how chacha addressed to maulana)...I am sending one of my nephews with an article, pls see it and give ur opinions".

I went to his house known as Rangpur house near China building/Azimpur in that night (Wednesday). I read out the article and showed him where I marked the important lines.
I asked, "Hujur, pls don't mention any name, you can just simply say, some people are trying to misguide about our nomenclature" He replied " Why should I fear to mention name of Abdul Gaffar Chow?, there are few Nastik, Murtad(atheists), ultra-secularists who are creating problems, confusions. everybody knows them, they are very few"

Interesting thing, next Friday he addressed this issue in his khutba(sermon)in Baitul Mukkaram,he clearly explained the significance of our muslim/arabic naming and also warned the so-called columnist mentioning the name of article and it's writer.
I was astonished to see his courage to utter the truth(we might know AL tried to sack him from his
post)
............

His death is a great loss. Many believe Bangladesh as a nation state and as a muslim country is passing very criticial time. Somebody surmised, a obscure turbulent is heading towards our beloved motherland, may engulf her muslim and independent entity. We urnestly feel the intellectuals like Dr Aftab Ahmad and spiritual leaders like Maulana Obaidul Haque. But alas! we lost them within one year.
May Allah save us and Bangladesh from all evil designs Allah Hafiz Mokarram
