Consider the following problem:
Mr. X is the higher authority (elected)
Mr. Y is an elected member of a committee chaired by Mr. X
Mr. X does something wrong
Mr. Y has several choices:
· support, protest, resign from the committee, keep silence
Resignation brings uncertainty in career
Protest brings anger from Mr. X
Support brings anger from the voters
So, Mr. Y keeps silence and so does every other member
Mr. X continues to do wrong
Mr. Y continues to keep silence
At times colleagues talk to each other with caution
At times Mr. Y talks to the colleagues with caution
Everyone shows caution not to make Mr. X angry
Still, Mr. X smells differences
Mr. X accuses some people of "grouping"
Mr. X eliminates them
Mr. Y keeps silence
As time goes on, Mr. X accuses more people of grouping
Mr. X eliminates them
Mr. Y keeps silence
At one point, Mr. Y fails to hide differences, and gets accused of grouping
Mr. Y teams up with the victims of Mr. X
The team may or may not get a chance to discuss it in a committee meeting
The team contacts the voters and explains the wrong things done by Mr. X
Voters respond in various ways:
1. You should have solved the problem in the committee meeting.
2. Why did you keep silence?
3. You took advantage from Mr. X and now betraying him?
4. Everyone wants to be the king, look at Mr. Y.
5. They are just the same.
6. This complaining Mr. Y will be just like another Mr. X.
7. Are you guys getting divided?
8. This is politics, so much division.
Eventually, Mr. Y gets eliminated with or without some other colleagues.
Question: Assuming everyone is cautious and keeps silence to avoid anger from Mr. X, in what democratic way Mr. Y could avoid elimination?
