Subject: [Bafi] Sidr Relief Efforts (Updated): Last call for Organizations to indicate their intent and coordinates

Dear Community Members and well-wishers

We have received several positive responses to our request for organizations collecting funds for Sidr victims to submit 2-3 lines on their objectives and how they intend to disburse these funds to the victims. A complete list with this information and contact information such as two names, telephone numbers and email are requested from organizations that do not have a website. Organizations that do have websites will have potential donors directed to the respective web address.

The collected materials will be put in a resource center for the public to access and make donations, both at www.bafi.org as well as at another website being developed with the idea of ensuring that the benefits of our donations are optimized by leveraging total collections without loosing an organization's identity or freedom to choose where funds are sent. For example, if five organizations choose to send funds to NGO X then leveraging the power of the total sums of these five organizations the NGO will be asked to disburse funds without taking any overhead charge, which can run very high for some. Other possibilities also exist such as seeking matching grants from large foundations.

Cylcone Sidr is the second worst in terms of maximum wind speed to have hit Bangladesh and has caused tremendous amount of suffering and losses in terms of human lives, properties and infrastructures. Even before this event, four of the 10 worst cyclonic events in the world impacted Bangladesh and caused severe damage in far greater proportions than similar events in other countries. However, the Bangladeshis are resilent and they rebuild and resume life again.

Those of us who are fortunate have a responsibility to provide a supporting hand not just individually but also through leveraging our collective power without any loss of our individuality. Please send your organization's information in the next couple of days and, if appropriate, take this message to your area organizations. Time is of essence. See the story at http://thedailystar.net/story.php?nid=12581

Finally, if you are an individual hold off your donation for a couple of days. We will share important information with you so that you can make informed decision on how to leverage your funds and get more, and where to send these.

Warm regards
Dr. Badrul Haque
