[mukto-mona] From dust to dust.

Last week I went to attend a funeral of one of my colleague's mother who died at the age of 95. Any news of death personally diminishes me but if I am called to attend the last rites I do not miss that opportunity. Saying good bye to any one is hard but these occasions help me to renew my link with death. She was draped in her best but last dress, lying in her gorgeous coffin, contended and peaceful. My friend put her 70 years old wedding picture into the coffin which she loved to see always.   Her coffin was lowered in the grave as the priest extols her long and eventful life and briefly explained the frailties of life which ended with the words from" dust to dust".

To me life is like a river starting from a mountain ending at the sea. The space between these two spots is our life some times short some times long. Traveling through many landscapes, human habitations, deserts and jungles, night and days and finally saying good bye to everything it touched and saw.   Sages say that if the finite does not meet the infinite nothing is complete. To me this infinite is time, the most mysterious phenomenon, wrapping the entire creation. Life itself  is a dew drop on the face of time what we humans value so much but in essence is a piece of chaos in the silent procession of time. In life I am wrapped and in death also I am again wrapped. Eternally.

But on the other hand we can make our life meaningful if we know why I am living. Our short walk on the beaches of the eternity could be a momentous occasion if I can think beyond my size. In the cosmic terms this earth which is a tiny blue dot in the vast emptiness of the universe is a very interesting matter to think about. My tiny human body hardly realizes this mystery but everyday I am being rolled in a motion that never stops. This is a stunning truth that I am a part of this fathomless creation and I am not anything to be neglected. I am an integral part of this infinite. I have a mind, I can grasp and I have emotion to laugh, cry and brood.
