To expect India's Congress party to do anything other than what they have in Taslima Nasrin's case (even without the Communists having them by the short hairs as they do at the moment) would be a grave mistake. This was the party that used its brute majority in Parliament during Rajiv gandhi's ledership to deny Muslim women any compensation in divorce after the Shah Bano judgement, which was the first band of thugs to ban Salman RUshdie's "Satanic Verses" in the world and whose current hereditary leader, Rahul Gandhi, recently spent a whole day wearing a mullah cap and campaigned along with Deobandi mullahs during the UP elections.
If, indeed, Taslima Nasrin expected that India's Communists and the supposedly "Secular" Congress would take any stand against her persecution, she was terribly mistaken. Expecting these criminals on the Left to be honest about anything is definitely Dr Nasrin's biggest folly. Hopefully she would learn from her experience and stop considering them her ideological associates. What the Left are, and this is a dispaassionate view based on the evidence of their actions vis a vis fundamentalists, could be charitably described as human refuse.
