1. Humans (for that matter all animals) migrate (temporarily or permanently) basically because of the following two reasons: (i) real, potential, and perceived threats in the current habitat, and (ii) real, potential and perceived opportunities in the new land.
2. The major real threat to the Hindu population in general came in the form of communal killings and other forms of mayhem that started in 1946 and continued to occur from time to time. The last one occurred in 2002 immediately after BNP-Jamaat came to power. Besides all this mayhem that spanned wide geographical areas, Hindus here and there have always been weak targets of persecution by the social miscreants most of whom this way or that way belong to the powerful political parties. Many of the incidents (murder, rape, threat to life, land grabbing, destruction of deities in Hindu temples, etc.) are regularly reported in the local newspapers and voices are raised in support of the persecuted in various forums. Because of this continued threat to life, dignity, and property, many Hindus keep one option open--- go and settle in India.
3. There are other basic reasons that I have mentioned above. There should be an objective study. Over simplistic and politically and communally motivated studies must be avoided.
