[mukto-mona] God fearing Karnataka.

"KARNATAKA IS FULL OF SHRINES

The people of Karnataka seem to be god-fearing: the state has more than 200,000 places of worship, with Bangalore accounting for 5,739.
Here is more. The number of educational institutions (1.16 lakh) and hospitals (38,380) put together does not equal the number of places of worship – a whopping 2.07 lakh according to the 2001 census.
More telling: while there is place for worship for every 263 persons, there is a school for every 455 persons. And for every 1,375 persons, there is a hospital/dispensary. With over 15,000 shrines each, Belgaum, Gulbarga and Bangalore districts take first three ranks. Among cities, Bangalore is way ahead with 5,739 place of worship." – TIMES OF INDIA, April 19,2008."

Bangalore is supposed to be the Silicon Valley of India full of educated professionals and the home of the prestigious Indian Institute of Science, a world famous Institution. It is disgraceful for the community who allows proliferation of (hyper) religious business to such an extent. India, claiming to be a secular state, must introduce a licensing system and make it mandatory to the patrons of these shrines to annex free/subsidized schools and hospitals/dispensaries with these places of worship. One should certainly not mind a shrine in the backyard if schools and the hospitals, attached to it, serve the people.

Love and Good wishes to all in Mukto-mona.
