[ALOCHONA] Lawyers and Sheikh Hasina

Dear Readers:

As a lawyer and a journalist I am surprised how the lawyers of Ex-Prime Minister Mrs. Sheikh Hasina are managing to make political statements on her behalf to the public at large after paying legal visits to her at her palce of detention? I am ready to accept the arguments when the lawyers are making comments on any issue (even on politics) if she had done so whilst at Court but what legal authority is there for my fellow colleagues the respected lawyers to make political comments to the public and to her workers at large as her legal representatives? What immunity do the lawyers enjoy whilst making comments like 'She has asked the activists to remain united and etc etc' after there visit to her detention? We are under a State of Emergency and I am as always all for right to freedom of speech but lawyers should be much more cautious and aware not to become politicised whilst performing their legal duties towards the society at large.

Sincerely,
Mufassil M M Islam
