Re: [mukto-mona] Washington Post Mobile - 'Disillusioned' McClellan Defends Memoir

WRT: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mukto-mona/message/48501

1. Let some of his ex-colleagues call McClellan a betrayer and let Dr. Jiten Roy echo the same. But McClellan's book has revealed a truth about the American politics: Washington has its own culture which an elected president can hardly change. Bush had to believe and convince himself about the courses of action that the Washington culture proposed to him. McClellan has suggested that Obama and McCain keep this truth in mind.

2. This kind of "betrayal" sheds light on the decision making process in the innermost circle. Sangh Parivar is currently facing trouble arisen out of a book written by its ex-minister Jaswant Sing. There is pressure on him not to publish it. As we know autocratic rulers used to deal such cases in a different way: simply silence the "betrayer" for ever.

3. If McClellan is right, we have to say that "Washington culture" is more powerful than the president. This can be illustrated by the scenario captured in one of Rabindranath's well known poems. The last two lines of this four-liner are the following:

"Path bhaabe aami deb, rath bhaabe aami
Murti bhaabe aami deb, haase antarjaami."

This "antarjaami" remains ever unreachable to the voters.
