[mukto-mona] Process in Law

In the USA and, as far as I  know, in most other civilized countries of the World, if the Government accuses a person that he or she has violated certain law of the country and has produced evidence to that effect, the accused person is required to prove in defense that what the Government has presented as evidence is not correct. If the person can not prove otherwise, the person remains accused and has to face the penalty. For example, if the Law Enforcement Department –simply the Police, gives a person a ticket for speeding or the Taxing Branch of the Government ( The Internal Revenue Survive -IRS, in the USA) not believing the correctness of tax returns of a person, asks the person to prove that the income of the person is more than what has been reported in the submitted return, the onus is on the accused to prove it otherwise.  If the accused person can not prove the findings of the Government (based on, albeit, Government's investigation – Radar reading in speeding case or several other unreported bank accounts here and there etc) otherwise, the person (He or She) stands accused and has to pay penalty in accordance with provisions of the Law. In the process of defending one's innocence, if the person takes refuge under the pretension that the document has been eaten up by his dog or termite, the Government has no other  recourse but to find the person guilty and punish the accused accordingly.  It is that simple. Ignorance of the law is no defense either.
