[mukto-mona] Re: Georgia:Views & Counterviews

Most international conflict has two perspectives. South Ossetia and
Abkhazia's breakaway from Mother Georgia falls into the same
category. I have been following the conflict not from now but since
early 1990s when the Great Soviet Empire imploded to nullify the
doctrine which had no real supporters perhaps excepting Cuba, N.
Korea and West Bengal. But that is another matter.

From Georgia's perspective, the cessation of Abkhazia and S. Ossetia
is quite deplorable. If India could still exist as a nation since
its bloody birth in the aftermath of Hindu-Muslim riots, why can't
ethnic Russian live in a unified Georgia. Please look at the map and
you will see that S. Ossetia and Abkhazia rightfully belongs to
Georgia. But Russia has other ideas.

I recently met a Ukrainian American who is a college professor at
Baton Rouge, Louisiana who I met before the flare up of escalation in
S. Ossetia and Georgia. She said that Russia wants to dominate her
neighbors. And there lies the truth.

The world is slowly but surely becoming compartmentalized; each
region has its own boss. America wants to dominate Canada and
certain European nations. Think about NATO and you will know it.
Russia wants to be the boss man of Eastern European nations. India
would love to dominate Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh,
and of course Pakistan. China wants to control Tibet, Taiwan, etc.
That leaves Japan to look for Asian nations to exert her dominance
via pulling economic strings and doling out grants to poorer Asian
nations.

One should ask - Why it is that Russia wants to foment trouble for
Georgia. Only few years ago Russia's hegemony took a toll on
Ukraine. Luckily, tens and thousands of Ukrainians took to the
street and said no to Russia's interference as the former boss wanted
to see one of its stooges to run the country. The same goes for
Georgia. The present president, Mikheil Saakasvili, came to power
through adult suffrage when he promised that he would bring back the
break away province of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Is it a crime on
the part of a politician?

We all know why Russia wants to dominate Georgia. The answer lies in
the oil pipeline. I have treasure trove of historical information
that points out clearly that Russia's hegemony is the real reason we
have problems in Georgia. Of course, the western-leaning president
of Georgia should be blamed for initiating a mini-war in S. Ossetia
and in parts of Georgia bordering the breakaway province. I am too
busy with other worldly assignments and I don't know when I could pen
my article to assert that Russia has a grand design to control the
region for her self-interest. Oil has become a very important
commodity and Putin wants to control the flow of it from that region
by dominating other neighboring nations including Georgia.
