Your post is neither well-founded, nor based on any historical evidence. Mr. Mustaque Ahmed, although being one of the founding members of our first government, was a staunch conservative who opposed secularism, and Mujib's ideas for an independent Bangladesh. A mediocre leader with known ties to the Pakistani army and government officials, he was trying to have it both ways; work with the post-liberation government and simultaneously form alliance with the anti-bangladesh forces, including the radical factions that have now corrupted our society. Mr. Ahmed, in his own account (see Bangladesh: A legacy of blood), was opposed to the idea of a secular society where the "Church and State" could be separated. It is no accident that he was a self-appointed president. He is also the person who ordered the imprisonment of Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin, Qamruzzaman, and Munsur Ali.

 

But perhaps his greatest, and most asinine, legacy has been the replacement of "Joy Bangla" by "Bangladesh Zindabad". Nothing could have been more appeasing to his Pakistani masters!!

 

So, yes, indeed he was a "great president"!! He was the greatest president to re-invite islamic fundamentalists in a newly democratic, secular Bangladesh, and re-establish the fascist Moududi Ulama.

 

It would be great if you, or people like you, could check historical facts and anecdotal information from ALL sources and not just the pro-Pakistani texts, before making such assertions.

Dear All,

           The pro Indians in Bangladesh always try to undermine the role of Khandoker Mustaque Ahmed the foreign Minister of exile Govt.

He played a very important role. more important than tajuddin.

Mujib knew it.So he expelled Tazuddin from his cabinet but keep K Mustaq with due respect. But mustaq oppose  Indian imperialism .  he fought for water oppose Farakka so Mujib changed his portfolio may be to satisfy India.
