In spite of being a teacher in Chemistry, I also study a bit of history. I
consider 'prosperity' that Bengal is said to have nothing more than a
fantasy. Even Adam Smith wrote many pages on the plunder of Bengal by the
Brits in his book, before that Marathis did it, Moslem rulers were no less
plunderers either, I fail to find out when Bengal was really Sonar Bangla.
Some say, it was Hossain Shah's time, i.e., during the time of Sree
Chaitanya; while others believe Shaista Khan's time was really golden,
almost all the gold coins were collected and sent to Delhi for the Maratha
expedition of Aurangzeb.
Seraj-ud-Dowla and Shaikh Mujibur Rahman were both unsuccessful leaders.
None of them believed in any form of good governance. True, the Shaikh was
the only political leader in Pakistan who wanted autonomy, independence
might have been a little too much for him to swallow. I am sure, evidences
exist in the archives of India and Pakistan to support my point of view.
