[mukto-mona] A senseles wastage in the name of religion.

As per New Age report this year almost 46000 people from Bangladesh will perform Hajj. Each one of them will spend $1350.00 as air fare only. This costly Islamic ritual is a price to prove that they are good Muslims and pave their way to the heavens. Is religion is all about seeking personal emancipation or it carries any social responsibility? Was it the intention of the prophet to make the Muslims selfish in this way? He gave his followers some guidelines to be righteous but never expressed any intention to regiment their lives. He placed dignity of every human being above everything. His emphasis on compassion surpassed all other considerations. Here the mullahs are in constant conflict with the prophet whom they pretend to love and respect and even ready to die for him. Unfortunately a vast majority of the Muslims have accepted their selfish hypocrisy without any question.  Can Bangladesh being one of the poorest nations of the world afford this senseless wastage in the name of religion? If we claim that the basic idea of religion is to infuse goodness and generosity among its followers can we substantiate this wastage on Hajj in a nation like Bangladesh where millions still go hungry, children goes to bed half fed or no food,  cry for health care, education and social justice,  as legitimate and just?  I know even if my question is a valid one no one will really venture to tell the truth out of fear. But why this fear, why this apathy to the realities of life, why people voluntarily accept religion as a tool to regiment their own lives which is at odds with their everyday life? Why they use faith to bypass their social responsibilities? This staggering number of 46000 people each will be spending $1350.00 plus other related expenditures to perform Hajj which will not touch a single poor hungry kid's life in Bangladesh. This will not build a single house for a homeless family, will not help a mortally ill person to seek neither treatment nor it will help a single hungry child to have a meal. This is a preventable wastage if people agree to a simple truth that the religious rituals are not more important than our social responsibilities.

I will appreciate if anyone can say that I am wrong or Mukto Mona is a forum full of anti Islam members.
