Re: [mukto-mona] Charge of the Light Brigade.

"she should not have taken on leading non believers".

You seem to be saying that as a non believer, I should not take on other non believers. Pray tell, why not? Are other humans so well versed in interpretation and knowledge that they are safe from scrutiny?

That sounds like the way believers think to me.

I allow that my interpretation of your post may not be the correct one. So, if I am reading you incorrectly, what are you saying?

Copernicus was brave enough to publish his heresy posthumously.  Even Galileo apparently retracted whatever he wanted to say.  Dr. Manning needs a beginners course in the anthropology of religions, and read the Ugaritic Bible.  One should not blame her, as even Hegel was a devout Christian.  With her analytical ability,   Any holy literature, when thoroughly read would evaporate the faith of a believer.  I doubt, if Dr. Manning has read even Genesis with enough attention.

Dr.Audrey Manning's comments on Dawkin have created some interesting discontent among some of the noted intellectuals in the Forum. Knowledge being an important part of human survival needs to be vigorously pursued in our times which are going through a very stressful period of its entire life time. The generalization of any polemics, in this connection it's on the existence of God, as rigid by implying that they do not leave any space for further investigation is not right. I find that there is a missing link between the theists and atheists. We need intellectual compassion in this debate. The people who firmly believe in God do not posses any real idea of what they really believe in. In the true spirit of knowledge vagueness is not an intellectual proposition. This is a kind of emotional hallucination which does not really mean anything. There are two kinds of believers one of them just maintains an unquestioned belief and the other has a romantic feeling about God. They want to understand it and sincerely try to embrace it. I would bring Tagore's case here as an excellent example. The basic nature of our intellect is to ask questions. A vast majority among us submits to the unknown evoking their historical right to submit when their intelligence fails to fathom the mystery of this creation. The other party relentlessly pursues their quest to the end. The role of intellectual compassion steps in here to support the both parties. The history of the mankind has recorded that the number of those people who does not want to stop at the approach of limitations are a very few only. We don't have many Copernicus's among us.  These few are very brave people. They are relentlessly pushing the chariot of knowledge. They are charging forward to challenge the dogmas and are opening new vistas of knowledge. This quest is endless and the horizon is expanding.
