Mili Malaker, 13 Abducted, Gang Raped for 7days Police did nothing, she committed Suicide
Mili Malaker, 13 had no choice but to commit suicide. She was gang raped for several days. Reports Daily Janakantha, 8th December 2008. Her sad ordeal was reported before on 6th May 2008 in daily Janakantha, Jugantar, and Jugoveri of Sylhet. Sylheter Dak also published her rape story on 20th May 2008. Nothing could save her, police & administration, as usual, look otherwise. Her poor parents could do nothing against the rapists. Finally, she took her own life, as if; it was a crime to be Hindu in a predominantly Muslim society of Bangladesh.
GHRD, Dhaka investigated the rape incident on 30th May 2008 and had requested help from administration and as well as society, nobody cared. Its findings are below.
Name of the victim: Ms. Mili Rani Malakar (13)
Victim's father: Khoka Malakar (55) Blind handicapped.
Victim's mother: Mrs. Prativa Rani Malakar (45)
Occurrence time & place: 25th April - 2nd May 2008.
Venue: Bhattapara Government Primary School. Zokiganj PS, District: Sylhet.
Nature of crime: Abduction and gang-rape.
Victim's Home Address: Vill: Kaladapnia, Zokiganj PS, Sylhet, Bangladeshi
Names of alleged Perpetrators : a) Abdul Lalif, 60, Ward Member & BNP U.P. Secretary b) Moinul Hossain, 45 of village, Balla c) Rafique, 40 of village Mohammadpur d) Rahat, 35 of village Mohammadpur, Vice President of Chatra Dal e) and an unknown person.
Ground Information: Ms. Mili Rani Malakar, 13 a Hindu girl and her parents were too poor to run the family. Her father was blind and mother used to work in other peoples house. Mili was also looking for a job. Abdul Latif used to visit Mili's house and he offered her a job and take her out of home on 25th April 2008. Instead of giving job Md. Latif took her in a solitary place near Zokiganj. There he & others raped her from 25th April to 2nd May 2008. The victim was found unconscious on 2nd May near Bhattapara Government Primary School at Zokiganj.
Investigation: GHRD interviewed Mili Rani, when she categorically disclosed that she was allured by Md. Abdul Latif. She informed that she was locked in a room and was raped day & night, one after another. When she became unconscious Md. Rafique dumped her near the school. Local people took her to home and from there to hospital. She herself filed FIR against the perpetrators, but she was slapped by the S.I. of Police who advised her not to tell the names. GHRD appraised S.P. and D.C. about the incident, but police failed to arrest anyone. Mr. Harun-ur-Rashid Khan, Deputy Commissioner was not interested to talk with GHRD, while UNO Md. Zillur Rahman Chowdhury threatened via cell phone to stop the investigation. A general diary has been filed against UNO by GHRD.
