RE: [mukto-mona] Re: Mr. Cyrus and Ms. Farida

A verbal diarrhea is an assault on all five senses. Making any sense of what is being said becomes a tough job under the circumstance. However, what gobbits of meaning could be rescued from the muck Firoz Alam discharged upon us give us the idea that he is compassionate towards animals and MBI Munshi. Such sentiments are commendable.

I too am very fond of animals, and my family's household has had cats and dogs as pets at various times. I have donated money to the ASPCA in UK and the USA.

We understand that Munshi is a highly prized pet of Pakistan Defense Forum (Top Secret) where his feat of producing more than 2,700 posts is truly astonishing. For his tireless contribution he has earned the rank of Major General! Wow!

It makes me feel guilty. My mutt Mickey, the one who used to kill snakes in our sprawling garden, was known in the neighborhood of Siddheshwari, Dacca, for his bravery. Surely he deserved to be elevated to the rank of a Lieutenant Colonel at the least. He died of heartbreak, and they buried him in my absence without a guard of honor. We can be rest assured that Major General Munshi of the Pakistan Defense Forum (Top Secret) would not meet the same ignominious end as poor Mickey.

So much for the reciprocal love between animal pets and ordinary humans.

While I have the floor, I want to turn for a moment to the subject of Superman. No, not that type drummed up by that crazy German philosopher, Nietzsche. I want to bring up Superman of the American Comic Books enormously popular since the 1940s. Newspaper cartoon strips, radio and TV serials, movies and games based on the Superhero were and still continue to be all the rage.

The Superhero of Action Comics used to hide his real identity, a man from the planet Krypton, posing as a mild-mannered newspaper reporter, Clark Kent. Whenever there was a threat of danger he used to transform himself into Superman, 'a man of steel' flying in the sky with his blue cape and x-ray vision! "It's a bird! It's a plane! It's SUPERMAN!" was the signature introduction of each show.

Back in May, 2008 when "an expert in South Asian affairs" named Sunita Paul, allegedly from Kolkata appeared in cyberspace with a trail blaze of objectionable disinformation with laughable pseudo-analysis on Bangladeshi matters, I was reminded of Superman.. Anyone who writes that 2006 Nobel Peace Prize to Dr. Yunus of Grameen Bank was a hoax and that he has never been a professor, or, no genocide took place in 1971, cannot possibly be from this planet. I thought of Action Comics, Superman from the planet Krypton, and his posing as a newspaper reporter. Here we have a case of one disguised as "an expert in South Asian affairs" from Kolkata but is secretly from another planet.

Then I realized that we don't have to go as far as Action Comics Superman circa 1938, USA. The trends and ingredients of the psychological crock of bs that we are being fed everyday is right here at hand, and I clearly identified them in a short satirical piece, "How to Make Your Own Sunita Paul."

None of my attackers had a clue about this cultural reference to the Superman. They are the same cast of characters, the same pit bulls, the same aimless barks with vicious ad homiem whether I write a poem on a Razakar or a satire on fictitious Sunita Paul or comment on Major General Munshi. It is time we begin to take count of their commonality and what else do they fear besides India, and any in-depth knowledge of culture and history.

Cheers

Farida Majid
