For the past few days we have been entertained with the so-called report on the BDR Mutiny on February 25 and 26, 2009. As a layman, I can say it is an apology to the inquiry. What have the people got to know from this report that they did not know already? In fact, by now people know much more than it pretended to say. Most sensitive parts remained either vague or left for further investigation. Being a former soldier, I can say that a subaltern of the military could perhaps produce a better and more objective one than what our high powered team under a former secretary presented us. If the team leader had any implied restriction, he should have some degree of honor not to come to the TV presentation, make a mockery of the show and dishonor the shaheeds of Feb 25/26.
We know there was another inquiry being conducted by police is an organ of the Home Ministry too. A retired CID, said to be a relative of the PM, was given that responsibility. The same CID official was the IO for the Sheikh Mujib Murder and Jail Killing cases, and received rebukes from Judges for clumsy and incompetent handling. It is a pity that our police is so handicapped that it needed to engage a questionable gentleman, even though he was retired, for these important and sensitive cases, ignoring the questions of 'clash of interest'. Of course, we now know the arrangem ent was rather to 'protect the interest'. A third inquiry was conducted by the army, and its chief declared that its inquiry was 'the property of the army' and could not be disclosed to the public.
So, we had a mutiny, inept handling resulted in the loss of scores of valuable lives, a controlled inquiry to cover up, and then divert public attention to non-issues. Also, we hear that our surrounding neighbor will manage our border forces soon. Do we then need a border force at all? Haven't we read the story of "Sheyal Pandit and Kumirer Chana"?
We are greatly concerned about our future!!!
