Satellite and cable propaganda Taslima factia@gmail.com Is seems that there is no campaign in Bangladesh to stop free broadcast of Indian satellite and cable operation. I think Bangladesh must stop giving India free access to 160 million strong nation to promote its propaganda, products and services. Otherwise, Bangladesh will never able to develop our own media or service industry. As you know access to the media is a way to the heart of the nation. Do the middle-class and the Ulema families see nothing wrong with that? But even the socalled anti-India parties like BNP/Jamat did noyhing in their 5-year rule. The media is silent too. I think it's important to create such awareness within ones own household first before we can take it forward. My own view is that our Ulema at Friday prayers should gently exhort their congregation to stop subscribing to Indian channels and Indian made unessential products that are available from other sources particularly MADE IN BANGLADESH ones. The Japanese, Koreans and Chinese have created a strong sense of their identity by being encouraged to value their own manufactures. If we don't value ourselves, lack self-respect, how can we function as civilised beings? Are the Japanese better Muslims than us? It's a hearts and minds thing. In the same manner we should go to the all the political parties, behaving in an empathetic & respectful manner, asking them to promote the national interest, removing the free access to Indian propaganda.If the economic argument is more persuasive use it. If nationalism is preferred use that; if a moral argument is stronger use that, etc. But I think cultural, human resource and economic argument are the strongest. Another is the issue, unknown but certainly misunderstood by the ignorant & naive intellectuals and media the facts about Indian censorship of Bangladesh media and culture (not forgetting, in the same manner, that India has very little trade with us; some how we seem to be giving a gift of over $10 billion every year to that hostile country). It's a very urgent matter needing attention for the sake of Bangladesh survival. We are involved in information warfare, a psychological weapon, a weapon as lethal as biological weapons. |
