Today I am really shocked and saddened at the death of our great visionary and a spirit of hope, Senator Edward M. Kennedy. He was truely a friend of Bangladesh and Bangladeshis. I first met him in 1971 while he was visiting Bangladesh refugee camps in India and ever since he was a friend, a guide and a hope to me. In my crusade against trafficking of women and children into slave like servitude or against violation of human rights and extra-judicial killings, he was my hope and a constant support. He never wavered on humanitarian issues. I am deeply greateful to him.
However, I hope that his legacy and his dream; his dream of universal healthcare, a decent living wage or equal opportunity for all irrespective of race, color or creed, and his hope of a better world will remain ever fresh in our minds. He was a spirit and a hope. Let his legacy live forever.
I pray for his departed soul and wish the Almighty to give strength and courage to his wife and the family to endure such great loss.

আসুন সিনেটর এডোয়ার্ড কেনেডীর জন্য শোক ও স্বজন হারানো বেদনায় অংশ গ্রহন করি।তাঁর মৃত্যু আমাদের জন্য দুঃখের সংবাদ।তিনি আমাদের মুক্তি সংগ্রামে সমর্থন করেছিলেন। তাঁর সমর্থন মুক্তিযুদ্ধে আমাদের মধ্যে নবচেতনার উন্মেষ সৃষ্টি কেরছিল।এ সমর্থনে তার সাহস ও ত্যাগ কাজ করেছিল। আমরা তা ভুলে যেতে পারি না। বিজয়ের
পর পরই তিনি ১৯৭২ সালের ফেব্রুয়ারী মাসে ঢাকায় আসেন এবং ১৪ই ফেব্রুয়ারি ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে আগমন করেন। তাঁর আগমনে আমাদের মাঝে গনতন্ত্রের স্বপ্ন উদ্ধিপ্ত হয়। তিনি আমাদের স্বাধীনতা ও গনতন্ত্রের ধারনায় নতুন মাত্রা বপন করেন এবং যুক্ত রাষ্ট্রের জনগনের গনতান্ত্রিক স্বপ্নের সাথে আমাদের স্বপ্নকে সম্পৃক্ত করার সংযোগকারীর ভূমিকা পালন করেন। গনতন্ত্রের প্রতীক হিসেবে তিনি সে দিন শিক্ষক ও ছাত্র নেতৃবৃন্দ সহ আর্টস ফ্যাকাল্টির সামনে একটি বট গাছের চারা রোপন করেন যা আজ মহীরুহে পরিনত হয়েছে।
এডোয়ার্ড কেনেডী বিশ্বব্যাপী গনতন্ত্র প্রতিষ্ঠার শুধু একজন বিজয়ী বীর ছিলেন না, তিনি দরিদ্র মানুষের মুক্তি সংগ্রামের ও একজন পিতৃ-তুল্য ব্যাক্তত্ব ছিলেন। আমরা তাঁর প্রতি আমাদের সর্বোচ্চ শ্রদ্ধা ও কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করছি এবং বিদেহী আত্মার শান্তি কামনা করছি।

Let us morn for Sen. Edward Kennedy. His death is a shocking news to us. His support to the liberation war of Bangladesh was a remarkable events for our independence. We can't forget his sacrifices. Immediately after independence of Bangladesh he visited Dhaka University on 14/02/1972. His visit was a good start for democratic dreaming for us and good relatioship with U.S.A. which is continuing till today.
He was not only a greatest champion of democracy but also a patriarch of downtroden people of the world. We expressed our highest gratitude to him and pay our highest homage to his departed soul.
Photo shows tha he is accompanied by teachers and student leaders of the Dhaka University at Bot thala infront of Arts faculty where he planted a Bot tree. Among other student leader I was also present at this occassion. I am (nur kazi)just behind Sen. Edward Kennedy.
