Ban on Organization: Proper Procedure Should Be Followed
Press has reported on 23rd October that the government on Thursday banned operation of Islamist organisation Hizb-ut-Tahrir on security ground, a senior home ministry official said. The home affairs ministry issued an official order imposing restriction on Bangladesh’s operations of the international outfit, already banned in many other countries including Pakistan and the USA for suspected links with militancy. Sheikh Hasina’s cabinet on March 16, 2009 sent back to the home ministry its report on the activities of militant outfits in the country asking it to give more information about such organisations and their networks.The report, placed in the regular cabinet meeting, named a dozen such outfits with information on their organograms, sources of funding, links to political parties and their operations.
The press reported on 24th October that the organization was not allowed to hold a press conference to explain their position.The police also kept their leader confined to his house.
As far as we know the party operates in UK as a legal group.They also held a major conference recently in the USA. Hizbut Tahrir applied for registration to the Election Commission.As far as we know they are a law abiding party in Bangladesh and committed to peaceful activities.We do not support banning any openly active organisation without serving show cause .We do not want that an open organization becomes under ground which is bad for all.There should be a proper procedure for this
