Daijiworld Media Network—Mangalore (RS/CN) Mangalore, Dec 19: The youth wing of the Jamath-e-Islami Hind organized a rally and an awareness programme in the city on Friday December 18, to oppose imperialism and capitalism in the country. 
The rally that started off from Jyothi Circle was jointly flagged off by the president of the Jamaat’s youth wing Mohammed Kunhi and Giriya Gowda, a farmer from the Kudubi Padavu village.
Kunhi said on the occasion that it will adopt 100 families in the district and provide them with Rs. 1,000 worth of provision every month. “The distribution of the ration will be a mark of protest against the complete failure of the public distribution system in the country”, Kunhi said. Speaking at the protest meeting in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Kunhi said the worst kind of oppression was being committed against the poor of this country in the name of development, law and order. “These two terms are used widely to distort and discredit genuine people’s movements across the country”, he said. Blaming the country’s indebtedness to the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and the Asian Development Bank for its “anti-people” policies, he said, “Today the country’s economy is literally being held hostage by these world financial institutions. Once they snare a country into a debt trap, they slowly begin to direct its economic activities to suit multinational companies." At the awareness programme organized in front of the deputy commissioner’s office, chief guest of the programme, Shashikantha Yadahalli, editor of ‘Rangabhoomi Vishleshane’ periodical, P Mujeeburahaman, president, Solidarity Youth Movement, Natesh Ullal, convener of Karavali Karnataka Janabhivruddi Vedike, and youth wing president Mohammad Kunhi were present. | |
