Bangladesh records first growth in overall export earnings

Bangladesh for the first time in the current fiscal year ending June 2010 recorded growth in overall export earnings in April, as the last month's income compared to the same period of 2009 increased impressively, official data showed Tuesday.

According to statistics of Bangladesh's Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), the country's export earning surged 19.03 percent to 1.40 billion U.S. dollars in April.

With hefty growth in April income, the EPB data showed Bangladesh's overall export earnings in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year (July 2009-June 2010) increased by 0.97 percent compared to the same period of the last fiscal year (July 2008-June 2009).

Export earnings for the July-April period of the current fiscal totaled 12.82 billion U.S. dollars, which is around 8.67 percent short of the targeted 14.17 billion U.S. dollars, the EPB data showed.
