Member/moderator Avijit asked some thought questions. I do not know enough to disagree or comment on them. However wanted to share my thoughts with few items discussed at the blog....

Peace!

>>>>>>>>> The laws of Islam (Sharia) actually evolved with different times. The OT and NT laws (The Biblical laws of Moses and Jesus) were slightly enriched with Jesus (PBUH). During last prophet Muhammad (PBUH) the laws were perfected and declared as "Universal laws". The Qurán stated that, our Creator sent messengers/warners to every nations in different times. However few of them were mentioned in the Qurán and most of the examples given were from the "Children of Israel" (Arabic Bani Israel and Hebrew Bene Israel). Thus laws mentioned to the chosen tribe (Chosen for that time period ONLY!) applied to those people ONLY.

Now going back to reproduction of the first couple on earth. It was a question in my mind when I was in high school and took me years to get the answer for it. Unfortunately Muslim society in Bangladesh is "Too sensitive" to discuss these important topics. However fortunately all Muslims are not this way and some did discuss it openly. The reproduction method was unique and a one time deal the "Set the wheel in motion" for humanity (If you wish to take this explanation literally).

Logically our Creator knows us more than any other entity. God created this world and creations in it with "Natural laws" and that is why we reproduce "Naturally". Later such marriages were prohibited by Islam and Muslims have a different set of values now.

For that reason, Islam is known as a "Natural religion" or "Deen al Fitra".

>>>>>>>>> Again Criticize with facts not fiction. First prophet Muhammad (PBUH) did not have 20-22 wives. His marriages were not "Conventional". When he was young, he married a women fifteen years older than him (Twice windowed with children--Not exactly fantasies of many people) and he did not marry again until his first wife died. His other marriages had social reasons (Like bonding friendships with tribes/nations, spiritual reasons etc). For example, Ayesha married Muhammad (PBUH) at a young age. She ALSO preserved thousands of Sunnah (Practices, sayings of the prophet) for all generations that followed. Her efforts helped Muslims to keep purity of the Qurán itself.

Anyway, historians defer with the actual numbers of wives but pretty much all agree it was between 11-13.

According to Martin Lings, Muhammad had given Safiyyah the choice of returning to the defeated Banu Nadir, or becoming Muslim and marrying him, and Safiyyah opted for the latter choice. [ Source: Martin Lings, Muhammad: His Life Based On The Earliest Sources (George Allen & Unwin, 1983), p. 269 ]

Here is the back ground of this union....

Safiyya bint Huyeiy Ibn Akhtab

Safiyya bint Huyayy was a noblewoman,[51] the daughter of Huyayy ibn Akhtab, chief of the Jewish tribe Banu Nadir, who was killed at the Battle of the Trench.[52][53] She had been married first to the poet Sallam ibn Mishkam, who had divorced her,[51][54] and second to Kenana ibn al-Rabi, a commander. In 628, at the Battle of Khaybar,[55] Banu Nadir was defeated, her husband was executed and she was taken as a prisoner. Muhammad freed her from her captor Dihya and proposed marriage, which Safiyya accepted.[56] According to Martin Lings, Muhammad had given Safiyyah the choice of returning to the defeated Banu Nadir, or becoming Muslim and marrying him, and Safiyyah opted for the latter choice.[57]
According to a hadith, Muhammad's contemporaries believed that due to Safiyya's high status, it was only befitting that she be manumitted and married to Muhammad.[58] Modern scholars believe that Muhammad married Safiyya as part of reconciliation with the Jewish tribe and as a gesture of goodwill.[59][60] John L. Esposito states that the marriage may have been political or to cement alliances.[61][original research?] Haykal opines that Muhammad's manumission of and marriage to Safiyaa was partly in order to alleviate her tragedy and partly to preserve their dignity, and compares these actions to previous conquerors who married the daughters and wives of the kings whom they had defeated.[62] According to some, by marrying Safiyyah, Muhammad aimed at ending the enmity and hostility between Jews and Islam.

>>>>>>> Then comes the shocking allegation from our "Domestic pundit" telling us that, prophet of Islam (PBUH) permitted rape. NOT only rape but in front of their husbands. A strange reference also appeared in the article....(Qurán 4:24)

Let us see what the Surah says...

004.024
YUSUFALI: Also (prohibited are) women already married, except those whom your right hands possess: Thus hath Allah ordained (Prohibitions) against you: Except for these, all others are lawful, provided ye seek (them in marriage) with gifts from your property,- desiring chastity, not lust, seeing that ye derive benefit from them, give them their dowers (at least) as prescribed; but if, after a dower is prescribed, agree Mutually (to vary it), there is no blame on you, and Allah is All-knowing, All-wise.

I see some per-conditions and prohibitions against people who wanted to stay chaste. WHERE does it say to rape someone in front of their husbands????

The references used were questionable as well. I am not sure HOW anyone after reading this verse of the Qurán extract that meaning out of it?

Arabs had permission to marry their slaves but that ALSO had to follow proper ways (Dowry to woman and proposal). For short period of time, temporary marriages were allowed and later it was prohibited.

In addition, in his Sahih, Muslim recorded that Ar-Rabi` bin Sabrah bin Ma`bad Al-Juhani said that his father said that he accompanied the Messenger of Allah during the conquest of Makkah, and that the Prophet said,

(O people! I allowed you the Mut`ah marriage with women before. Now, Allah has prohibited it until the Day of Resurrection. Therefore, anyone who has any women in Mut`ah, let him let them go, and do not take anything from what you have given them.)

Source: Tafsir Ibn Kathir--Prohibiting the Mut`ah of Marriage

This prohibition was discussed in the context of the SAME verse 4:24.
Unfortunately some Islam-bashers twisted the whole meaning of it and made it some sort of approval of rape. I do not blame our moderator for taking information from it but since comparative religion is a hobby of mine, I know that, that organization is not credible. More like a hate monger site to distort Islam. There are some organizations with multi-million dollar budget are engaged in such endeavor and some of us fall for it too.

>>>>>>>> Absolutely untrue. However Pakistanis were incredibly stupid and even now it's mighty army is known for killing it's own people NOT any enemies of the state. So Pakistani example is a lame one and I do not think Islam started in Pakistan and we need not to take "What not do in the name of Islam" and make it "Islamic" this way.

Prophet of Allah Muhammad (PBUH) clearly stated NOT to attack children, women, old people and those who do not fight Muslims to attack. There should NOT be any doubt about it. However if someone want to argue taking things out of context, they can spend a lifetime without understanding even basic values of Islam.

While I do agree we can always improve our school books, eliminating religion is probably NOT the best way to do it.
