The education minister Nurul Islam was an enlightened man as a student leader and subsequently as a political leader. I have a feeling that his enlightenment has not faded over time. But we understand that one's action when he is in position and his action when he is in opposition can have different manifestations. To be more specific, I am sure he being a member of a progressive party was against including "Religion" in the curriculum. (Prof. Muzaffer Ahmad, as I mentioned before, despite being a devout Muslim, was against the plan. He wanted an extra science or math class to replace Religion). 

I understand no government, unless it is a revolutionary one, will dare to decouple religion from curriculum or state affairs. But buy adding Moral Education (or Ethical Education?) to Religion, what has our Education Minister tried to achieve? Is he trying to give religion a more fundamentalist look with an evil scheme to push our children into a greater darkness? For example, will the Hindu Religion and Moral (Ethical) Education text now glorify the caste system or glorify the life of a Hindu widow? Personally I find it hard to believe that he has such an evil scheme. Has he swallowed a bitter pill? Who knows---greed for power, authority, name, and fame can blind one.  

Can the objective of the revised curriculum be otherwise? In the name of moral (or ethical) education as a part of religion, maybe, the minister is trying to stress on universal values---both moral and ethical. Rabindranath has a lot of literary pieces based on Hindu mythologies which have been transcendental to a great extent. 

I wish I could look at one of the new books. Also we have to see how our molla/purohit community reacts. If it welcomes the new move, we will know there is some thing wrong in the new education policy.

All these critical information all religious people should know, but they don't, because most of these information are often censored or filtered by religious preachers. Instead, they feed fabricated mythic stories to keep devotees forever ignorant; that's what is passed onto as religion.

মুক্তমনা ব্লগার ওমর ফারুক লুক্সের একটা ফেসবুক স্ট্যাটাস থেকে দেখলাম বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় শিক্ষাক্রম ও পাঠ্যপুস্তক বোর্ডের তৃতীয় শ্রেণী থেকে দশম শ্রেণী পর্যন্ত ধর্মীয় বিষয়ের পাঠ্যপুস্তকের সঙ্গে নাকি 'নৈতিকতা' বলে কি একটা নাকি জুড়ে দেয়া হয়েছে।  পরে ন্যাশনাল কারিকুলাম এণ্ড টেক্সটবুক বোর্ডের সাইটে গিয়ে দেখি সত্যই তাই।  প্রতিটি ক্লাসের ধর্মগ্রন্থগুলোর সাথে 'ও নৈতিক শিক্ষা' বলে দুটি শব্দ যোগ করা হয়েছে। যেমন আপনার ধর্ম যদি ইসলাম হয়, তাহলে সন্তানের জন্য বইয়ের শিরোনাম – 'ইসলাম ও নৈতিক শিক্ষা', ধর্ম হিন্দু হলে বইয়ের নাম 'হিন্দু ধর্ম ও নৈতিক শিক্ষা', খ্রিষ্ট ধর্মের ক্ষেত্রে 'খ্রিষ্ট ধর্ম ও নৈতিক শিক্ষা', বৌদ্ধ ধর্ম হলে শিরোনাম হবে – 'বৌদ্ধ ধর্ম ও নৈতিক শিক্ষা'। এরকমের। তৃতীয় শ্রেণী থেকে শুরু নবম-দশম শ্রেণীর প্রতিটি ধর্মের বইয়েই এই অবস্থা। কার উর্বর মস্তিষ্ক থেকে  এই নয়া পরিকল্পনা বেরিয়েছে, জানি না, তবে ধর্ম বইয়ের সাথে নৈতিকতা জুড়ে দেবার ব্যাপারটা বেশ মজার লাগলো। আর এটাই হল আজকের এই প্রবন্ধের খোরাক।...
