It is good to know that a blockhead named Chakrabarty is rational. He defends Islamic traditions like a mufti and condemns Hindu traditions even more than a mufti would. For years, I have advised him to prostrate towards Mecca, perform Hajj complete with rituals of stoning the devils and others.
When secularism is practiced in a way as in India, fundamentalism of the majority results. In secular India, appeasing the minorities has reached to such height that even the Ramkrishna cult wanted to be treated as religious minority. Secularism is not bowing down to vote banks guided by medieval mindset.

I would completely endorse Dr. Bain's opinion but I am not that good man. BJP is basically a result of communal politics of the neighboring countries which started long before the partition. If Muslims think that they would be allowed to subjugate minorities in their countries, why Christians, Hindus, Budhists and Jews would not return the favor in kind? Even secular Scandinavians started to firebomb Islamic mosques. Where these kind of hatred coming from?

Little appeasement is OK but the practice has become too vulgar and obscene in many secular countries because politicians thought they could push their secular supporters harder and harder. Now, that has finally backfired and communal parties are coming back everywhere with full force. It is only matter of time when National Front would be getting 20-30% of the popular votes in Europe. I can conclude that this is not happening in the vacuum.

Thanks for not reacting irrationally like Mr. Das and Dr. Roy. I am guessing you are Mr. Deeldar.

Let me come to the point. Depending on the demographic composition of the population,  politics of appeasement may become an essential strategy of a political party. Sometimes it is not appeasement, it is simply compromising with the evil forces. You are pointing finger to the secular forces, but you may remember that Vajpayee was in power for the full term. Could he be courageous to take a bold step? Probably not. He was an experienced politically wise man but he also failed in this respect. What did Modi do? Before election he distributed Islamic caps and borkhas? Now he has majority in the parliament. Let us see what he can do about possible uniform laws. It is a challenge for the leaders in a multilingual, multi religious, multi tribal, and multi in every respect. Moreover he has his own Hindutvabadi agenda for implementation of some of which he has to spend some time. Nathuram Godse project is one of them.

Gouridan, child marriage, whatever it may be called, it should not be allowed in any civilized country. The secularists of India have stopped the Hindu barbaric practice of Gouridan, which is good. But wasn't it a shame that they bowed down to the Muslim barbarians? BJP's rise to power in India is due to the stupidity of people who claimed to have owned secularism in India. (Of course, while I can see the Hindu fanatic component of BJP; overall that party of India is no more religious fanatic than what Awami League of Bangladesh is.)

'Halal' means permissible or allowed. Saying that child marriage is halal is not a wrong Islamic statement. Obviously it does not mean 'mandatory' and that way Islam gives freedom to the parents when it comes to marrying their daughters. Comparatively the Hindu custom of 'gouridan' was lot worse.
Be it mandatory or permissible-- it does not matter. No question should arise to marry a girl at a very early age. Many countries including India have laws not allowing to marry girls under certain age. This makes Gouridan illegal in India. As far as I know a certain section of the Ulema opposes this law as a result of which the Moslems are not affected by this legal restriction.

According to Hindu scripture, if a girl sees her menstrual blood before wedding, her father would be condemned to hell after death. Gouridan occurred before the age of eight. Mrinalini Devi, wife of Tagore, gave birth to her first child by the age of twelve. By the contemporary law, Tagore would be in jail for statutory rape. Child marriage is Sunnah, as she is not used as food, I am not sure if the word halal is appropriate or not.

It is true, child marriage is also present in the Hindu society, but I do not know of any Hindus religious scripture advocating this practice, as it is in case of Islam. That's the point being discussed here.
I am sure, Mr. Chowdhury and Chakraborty know that very well, but they are trying to whitewash the fact by diverting discussion into other directions. The question is – why are they trying to cover up this unholy practice? This practice is
