The campaign for trial of war criminals has recently got a high score in Bangladesh. I personally believe the trial of criminals including war criminals is a demand of justice. However, while all crimes should be tried and brought to justice without delay, social justice system should have a degree of priorities in the context of time and current social need. Bangladesh, the liberated independent country has suffered so much during the last 3 over decades and has missed so much opportunity of growth and development not because of the war criminals but for the unthinkably corrupt, immoral yet self-proclaimed patriot politicians and fake advocates of democracy. The current CTG came in power for a limited period but with a huge burden of its proclaimed fight against corruption and creation of an environment of free and fair election to be conducted at the end in the backdrop of a serious stalemate resulted from the overwhelming bigotry of the thug politicians which is not unknown to anyone. Now, given the broad agenda of the current CTG to be implemented before a free and fair election can be held within the next one year or so, what is more important - trial of war criminals or trial of corruptions and crimes that have held the country back thus far??? It appears that it is not the war criminals but the rotten politicians that are the real enemies of the country in the current context as they are trying hard to divert the attention of the authority from the core real issues of concerns just for their vain personal and political gains as opposed to the interest of the country. They were either in power or associated with power and yet they never tried the war criminals during the last 36 year. In fact the campaign is not aimed sincerely at trial of war criminals per se. It is obviously aimed at a hidden agenda of the anti-Islamic elements to circumvent any further rise of political Islam that they are afraid of and to make secularization run unbridled. Furthermore, since they are the self-proclaimed sole agents of patriotism, democracy and free-thinking and as their unconscionable lifestyle, corruption, abuse of power, hypocrisy and moral & political bankruptcies have brought them to justice, they just want to divert the public attention and hatred to their ideological enemies. Of course the domestic media in line with the international media is always active in favor of secular elements in blackmailing Islam by cooking and concocting lies and making issues out of nothing. We do not want to waste another 36 years to uplift the country from a lower hell to an upper hell. The CTG must respect its declared commitment and agenda so that its public mandate is not transgressed. The CTG should not get hallucinated at the drug influence of the putrid politicians. We support the demand for trial of war criminals. However, before the war criminals can be tried, we should try those first who were in power and never tried the war criminals because of their mean political interest as opposed to national interest. I also wish that the campaign against corruption and dynastic undemocratic politics is the highest priority for the country and should succeed without being derailed by any ploy. Regards. Wohid
