[mukto-mona] Fwd. Re. " the other, silent genocide in 1971?"

WRT: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mukto-mona/message/45178

Dear Belal Sahib:
I agree with you that Dr. Rummel's research is incomplete. All lot more peer approved research is necessary to determine what happened in 1971 that can stand the test of time and objective proof. We are at a critical moment when even the fundamental basis of our existence and history is being questioned. it is upto us to make sure that we do not allow fundamentalist reactionaries from manipulating and distorting it further. For this we must pursue the truth no matter where the chips fall.

We must acknowledge that attrocities were committed against hindus and against the so-called "Biharis" in East Bengal. Some of them committed by our side. I recall the burning of the pathan building in Ctg in either late march or early April 1971. At the same time post 1971 Bihari property was unlawfully siezed in Mohammadpur and Mirpur areas. Many of them driven out to India and Pakistan.

So statements like we Bengalis are incapable of genocide because of psyche are not helpful. We remain in the final analysis human beings and therefore subject to the same frailties and weakness that plague all other people. I hope that my comments will be taken in stride and not misconstrued.

Closure and reconciliation will come when all sides acknowledge truth. I hope it will come soon.

thank you

Robin Khundkar
