CAAMB's silent sit-in demonstration at Park Circus Crossing was stopped by Police after 20 minutes
As announced before and informed to local police, CAAMB started its silent sit-in demonstration at Park Circus Crossing at 2 pm under the statute of Jayprakash Narayan. This is the first demonstration on the street to demand Taslima Nasrin's right to stay in Kolkata and to condemn the Islamic violence on 21 November 2007.
The sit-in demonstration started well with hanging of different posters. There were a number of policemen present around. After about 20 minutes when a large number of media persons have arrived and our workers started to gather, Police intervened and told us to vacate the place. As we asked the reason for such order, police said they are being instructed from the top. Police felt that was a sensitive place and could not allow us to continue. As we did not want to worsen the scenario, we were forced to leave. The media people talked to us in length about the issue.

It was a black day for democratic rights of this state . While the police allowed the violent religious fanatics to carry on destruction throughout the day on 21 November, they could not allow a peaceful silent demonstration for more than 20 minutes. This shows the state of administration of West Bengal which is bent on appeasing the Islamic fundamentalists.
We appeal to everyone to condemn the police action on the freedom of expression by stopping our peaceful silent sit-in demonstration.
