[vinnomot] Behind the discrimination of women in India-Interview of Ivy Chatterjee

As to  best of my understanding of Indian society, it is one of those ethnic race with far higher level of discrimination against women--although discrimination against women is not unique to India and part of the blame might be attributed to women themselves because of the very nature of evolution which made them less aggressive than men, the fact remains same-In India, we live in a society that has authorized discrimination against women.  We interviewed writer Ivy Chatterjee on her views on this topic.

Dowry is chronic disease in India-level of hypocrisy that a Indian man can exhibit during his marriage is unbelievable and I have always been ashamed to be either their friend or relative.
During marriage, all sons are the most loyal sons of their parent--does not matter even if his father might be pressurizing his in-laws for dowry. Daughters are no less responsible--most of the women think they are useless unless they are materially blessed in a dowry. Worst, when father of a bride begs for money from his relatives to meet the demand of dowry, not a single protest can either be heard from the daughter or any relative of that father--everybody thinks, else 'she' will not get married--and nobody is ashamed that she is being sold worst than a prostitute-at least that woman on street gets her worth. Economic freedom of women didn't alter the situation either in South India. Women save their money from job to arrange dowry for herself in South India--what a shame!

My thesis supervisor once told me, it is far easy to speak about follies of your enemy--but unless you can speak hard truth of crime committed by your friends and relatives in their presence, better not speak about morality and honesty. Being nonconfrontal to the friends and relatives on their crime is same as approving a criminal society!

Thanks
