[ALOCHONA] Human Rights

Dear Mr. Ezajur:

I have noted your comments about my letter but I am confident that you did not take time to read through my letter precisely. Please take time again to note the following:

a. there are many NGOs at work to work for the untrodden and at the poor and we clap at seeing our Bengali girl with John Mc Caine but it is a Human Rights Advocate who will work to see hwat steps did Mr. future President (as I am confident about American sentiment) did to keep this girl in touch with her social roots and how and why millions of our children went abroad and owing to our social failurre and obscurity never returned to our country and how many NGOs are working in helping to smuggle many children abroad with excuses of treatment or work at a time when in our laws we do not recognise adoption policy. Many times these children happy endings but often end up in brothels and camel races. Let the BRAC worry in their shiny buildings about poverty but we Human Rights Advocates define and view things differently;

b. our democratic system has progressed than the long gone Martial Law or Bakshal and we are confident that not owing to love of nation, rather out of fear seeing Ershad's life, Mr. Moeen tends not to take power;

c. Hasina or Khaleds had committed (As a lawyer I have to say probably until proven at Court) unforgivable crimes but yet, we have to believe their steps did help us rid Ershad. We must not forget that owing to Bengali pressure even Ayub Khan had to go at the end of 1969 although many of his milestone works are still applauded;

d. it is true that all dictators wear the mask of ecomic successes and honesty;

e. our army has already become controversial internationally and domestically and many people tend to have lost have faith in the civil legal system but we forget that we CAN make the judiciary independent by our endeavours and all developed neations have done it and we cannot afford a Pakistani style system;

f. we are not ready to sacrifice our civil liberties in exchange of anything - not even prosperity;

g. who is going to try the serious errors of the army if they even commit crimes? Can you or anyone ensure that an army rule will not have chnace to breed corrupt civil administrators?

h. why can't we vie for a Police Ombudsmen and have an honest police force even to try the Army ( I have read the Army Code when I workrd on its translation, have you read it?)?

i. we can try Hasina and Khaleda for corruption but if we try Moeen, our armed forces will become divided.

Please become open and enlightened and accept that we cannot and will not sacrifice our basic human rights as a nation run with might and army are not respected internationally and these words are not lucid only but a reality. The Army in Burma has eventually ruined one of the most prosperous nations of the world and you do not have to read Shoort Chnadra and to travel to Rangoon to know the future of an army rule.

Sincerely,

Mufassil Islam
Human Rights Advocate

Subject: [ALOCHONA] Re: Civilian Rule

Dear Alochok Mufassil

A few things you should remember:

1. Hasina and Khaleda destroyed our democratic systems
2. Removing Ershad doesn't justify Hasina or Khaleda to be PM
3. Hasina and Khaleda are 100% responsible for the corruption of
their parties and their governments.
4. Their past failures by no means allow us to consider them as
future PMs
5. Such dictators mostly come to power when politicians and
parties fail to work in the interest of the electorate.
6. The Army and CTG are in no way more controversial of faulty
than the governments of AL and BNP that came before.
7. There is no civil court, under civil rule, that has the guts
to convict a top tier politician – let alone Hasina or Khaleda.

A girl is shot dead on campus by the student cadres of the party in
government – in Bangladesh.

The rat who threw acid on the face of a girl is protected by the
local thugs of the party in government – in Bangladesh.

Human rights and the law and the fine words of intellectuals count
for nothing without men who stand up and say `Enough is enough'.

You should write something about the beggar on the over bridge near
New Market – with no arms and no legs.
Lying on a dirty rag for hours calling his God for a few takas. What
do you offer to help his human rights?

You should write something about the 3 year old baby rented out to
hang on dirty saris at the polluted traffic lights of our capital.
Maybe drugged to not cry too much. Maybe with an ailment needing the
hospital. What do you offer to help her human rights?

There is a battlefield in our nation where human dignity and the
grace of our God is urinated on by the political establishment.

Human rights advocates are needed for the broken hearts and broken
spirits that litter the streets and fields of our beautiful land.

Don't worry about Hasina and Khaleda. They are among the few that
have built their own destiny.

Best wishes

Ezajur Rahman

curse of these two vampires and their Paa Chata dalals. We as a
nation have suffered for long long 36 years for the wrong doings of
their ancestors, now we need to be free and breathe a sigh of relief
