[ALOCHONA] Food Prices : It's a domestic issue you know!

Dear Alochoks

Having just returned from 20 days in Bangladesh I now know first hand
the scale of the problem our poor people are feeling - advice
like "eat potatos" doesn't really help. Clearly there is some
mismanagement on the part of the CTG but lets get some perspective
here. The politicos and their sycophants are very busily running
around telling all and sundry that this is 100% a CTG problem, one
that any political government would have been able to solve. Against
this background, imagine my surprise that after leaving the country
the following news items caught my attention:

- In India, edible oil prices are up 40%, milk is up 11%, rice is up
20%, lentils is up 18%
- India has banned exports of rice and raised export prices to
control the export of basmati rice (it will honour its deal with
Bangladesh though)
- In the UK, rice has doubled in price affecting the sales of Indian
(nee Bangladeshi) restaurants
- Food riots in Haiti, Phillipines, Egypt
- Food price hikes in Phillipines results in nationwide raids on
hoarders
- Tax cuts forced on Ivory Coast government to cope with rising food
prices
- Saudi Arabia decrees nationwide wage increase to cope with rising
food prices
- In the USA, rising grain costs has forced many hog farmers to close
their businesses and leave the industry
- The World Bank and IMF have held emergency meetings over the
weekend to discuss the GLOBAL food price crisis

(these are just the tip of the iceberg of course)

I was shocked of course that the World Bank, IMF, assorted global
organizations (WFP, UN etc) and governments did not ask the 2 Begums
or their supporters for their ready made solutions and finer
understandings of the issue...

...because as you know, for us its just a domestic issue that could
easily be solved by focusing on razakars and having a general
election!

Allah be praised for blessing us with the leaders we so deserve.

Regards,

Emanur Rahman, UK
