Re: [mukto-mona] Re: Transcript of Obama's speech in Philadelphia - Manning avoid reductionism

Hello Dr Jaffor Ullah,

Thank you for your response. It is good to take issue with what is
being said. I always told my students: listen to everyone but don't
believe that anyone knows more about life than you do. Apply that to
this situation and you and I have a perfect right to doubt each other.

May I ask what you would regard as facts? Is quoting another person
who thinks like you do quoting a fact? Is making an assessment of one
politician over another, based on your own beliefs, a fact? For every
person who writes a positive article about any of the politicians,
there are just as many who write negative opinions. So, unless one
wants support for one's views, why bother? I don't need to have
anyone support my views. They are my views. Take them or leave them.
I have no desire to change people to my way of thinking. I suppose
the more one can quote others the better, if there is a desire to
garner support for one's cause. But are political quotes from
reputable sources actually factual?

Politics is a dirty, nasty business. Many people die because of
politics. Do you regard that as hyperbole?

You drew a conclusion (based on your own bias?) from your
interpretation of what I wrote that I don't like Obama. I neither
like nor dislike Obama. I neither like nor dislike Hillary Clinton or
John McCain. What I don't like is what I see around Obama, the way
Obama has been pushed into the limelight simply because of charisma.
Another inexperienced man with good ideas and no charisma would not
have gotten a look in. Look at CNN. Obama's face is always on the
screen. It is as though there in no one else running.

Unless, he makes a boo boo, Obama will win. There doesn't seem to be
any doubt about that. What I am asking his supporters (you) to do is
remember that this is a flesh and blood man with a talent for public
speaking. That is all I am asking. Is that too much to ask? And why
does the request for caution incite so much opposition? This is self
policing.

Put simply, it doesn't matter a hill of beans what the politicians
are saying in terms of policy? Policy has a life of its own. Whoever
wins will see that. If the time for change has come it will happen.
If the time is not right, change won't come, no matter who is
President. It does matter when the population follow leaders blindly,
as history will attest.

As for Farida Majid, please be more specific.

Sorry if my comments strike a nerve. But it is my firm belief that
more people should question the emperor's clothes before they are
faced with a Mugabe type situation. And yes, it can happen here. One
has only to reflect upon the changes since 9/11 to understand that we
must be ever vigilant.

Now let me say one more thing: If I were an Obama supporter and
wanted my candidate to win, I would get all the supporter on the
forum to gang up on the non-supporters. That is how politics works.

The more things change the more they remain the same.

Audrey
