[ALOCHONA] Re: Some facts about Jamat-e-islame Bangladesh

Re: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/alochona/message/9939

I have few points regarding the post of Ms. Farida Majid:

1. Bangladesh did not fight the liberation war with the aim of giving the power permanently to any party, neither to refrain any party from obtaining it.  The nation's movement for democracy and economic prosperity eventually turned into the Liberation War.  Those who are trying to restrict politics for a selected ideology is working against the spirit of Liberation War.

2. The constitution of 72 does not represent the opinion of the majority of the people.  It was pushed in an extra ordinary situation and not even a referendum was arranged on it.  On the other hand, after the removal of some unwanted portions, majority of Bangladeshis have accepted it.  It is obvious that the existing basic principles reflect public opinion as no major political party even included removal of them in their election manifesto.

3. Even if the constitution of 72 reflected opinion of the majority at that time, there is no ground to ..  The owner of today's Bangladesh are the people who are alive now, not the one who used to live three decades ago.  How Bangladesh will be run must be decided by today's people.

4. It is childish to claim that a country must always be run in the direction its founders (there are even questions on who the real founders were) wished.  Parents of a child might plan to make him or her a shop-keeper, but he/she might want to be a university teacher.  It is immaterial what our forefathers wanted us to be.

5. The fact is that there is a quarter of the citizens (or former citizens) of Bangladesh who considers themselves the master the nation and the rest their subservient.  They always fear the people and are not ready to open politics for all.  Bangladesh belongs to its people.  Let them decide about their leaders.

Regards.
