More Rumors/not Rumors (historical facts)

1. During liberation war in 1971, Bhasani was a concern to India government because his inconsistent statements in Kolkata were harmful to the liberation effort. Alongwith many Awami League leaders he tried to cross back to the then East Pakistan to side against the liberation struggle. A mid-level communist leader used to tell day to day stories to me while I was in Kolkata. This was a huge trouble to the India government which caused India not to delay any more but to start direct action against Pakistan in December 1971.

 

2. Soon after coming back to the newly liberated country, Bangladesh, Bhashani was probably the first to campaign against India. One newspaper item stated him as saying, 'India has drilled slanted wells from the northeastern boarder of Bangladesh to steal oil and gas from Bangladesh.'

 

3. He mobilized people to walk to the Farakka barage to break it open

 

4. Right after leading a 'Bhukka Michhil' in Dhaka he was seen in delight having sandwitches with Sheikh Mujibor Rahman
