If belief in life after death vanishes, then theoretically there is no fear of Hell or hope of Heaven. Let us take the first one. If there is no fear of a Day of Judgement and punishment of Hell for the sinners, then how do you stop the criminals and sinners from going all out in this world to do whatever they want to do? How do you stop the powerful from crushing the weak with impunity? You said that "then they will try to make this life better ---" What if they don't? With what do you stop them? It is this fear of Hell which is keeping most of the people from committing reckless crimes. The biggest being taking someone else's life. Remove this fear and you open the Pandora Box. About the suicide bombers only one side of the activity is being considered. The action of the suicide bomber. But why does he or she turn into one is not getting prominence in this debate. Remove that cause then the suicide bomber will also want to live a peaceful and full life. How aptly poet Allama Iqbal said " Juda ho deen siasat say to rehjatee hai Chengezi", roughly meaning 'remove religion from politics and you will be left with barbarism (rule of Chenghes Khan)'.
