Other than the recent news of books from all over the world because of the relationship with the book fair for long 10 days the tales of the tour through Frankfurt has also been covered in the book. It is not only the Bangladeshis, any reader from any corner of the world will also be able to know the experience of this world renowned Frankfurt Book Fair by reading this book. Preface Ten Days in the K ingdom of Books is basically a travelogue based on my days in the Frankfurt Book Fair 2007. The purpose for putting on record the experience that I gathered there is to share it with a wider audience with the hope that it may facilitate the expansion of the horizon of book and love for book. I, on behalf of the Shrabon Prakashani, went to the fair as it reached the age 60. It would have been impossible for me to participate in the fair had there been no help from Mr. Mofidul Hoque, the renowned publisher from Dhaka with his enterprise Shahitta Prakash and from Ms. Rokeya Roethe, now in Germany. A number of reports by me on the fair were published in Prothom Alo, Jugantar, Amar Desh, and New Age, Bangla and English dailies, and, Shaptahik 2000, the Bangla weekly from Dhaka. Since then there were requests by many readers to have a book on the issue. Ms. Anne-Kathrin Häfner, International Project Manager of the fair has also encouraged me to prepare such a book. Despite her busy days she provided me information on the subject. Ms. Doris Oberländer and Ms. Corry Von Mayenburg, two of the organizers of the fair, Ms sheren Kreidieh from Lebanon, Eliana Sá from Brazil Ms Magda Klos Wytwornia from Poland, Mr . Mustapha Chajii from Morocco, Ms Michelle Juárez from Guatemala, MsTainie Mundondo from Africa, Ms Carmen Cecilia Suarez from Colombia have also encouraged me. Mostaq Hossain Liton, Mujtaba Ahmed Murshed and Omar Tarek Chowdhury, authors, Hasan Hafiz, journalist and poet, Faizul Hakim ,Sanjay Paul and Shaoli, daughter of poet Asad Chowdhury, extended assistance that helped me make the journey to the fair. I am grateful to all of them. The moments I passed along with Grass during the book fair are one of the few memorable attainments in my life. It was Daud Haider, the Bangalee poet now in Germany to whom I am indebted for making this great opportunity to meet the Nobel laureate. Nazmun NesaPiari, the lady from Bangladesh now in Germany with her pen and ideas and Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, owner of the publishing house from Dhaka, generously spent their valuable time for me in the book fair. I acknowledge this gratefully. Education played a great role in the reconstruction of post-war Germany. And education without books can never be conceived in a modern day. In turn, books can never be dreamed without publication. Germany paid lot of concentration behind publication. My days in the fair were constantly haunted by the question: where do we stand in terms of education, books and publication 36 years after independence? The level of education is known to all concerned in the country. Its quality lies near to the ground. Hundreds of thousands of the girls and boys from poor families go back from the door steps of mid-level education. Poverty looms on the lives of the millions. A quality education and publication industry can facilitate change of the "stagnant" process. I, not a professional photographer, tried to capture moments with the camera in my cell phone. A few of the photographs were downloaded from websites. Photographs of Shamsur Rahman and Akhtaruzzaman Illias were lent by Nasir Ali Mamun, the renowned photographer from Bangladesh. I will feel happy if the book is accepted by the readers.
