The debate is pushed astray to a ludicrous extent. Where did I say Prof. Sushil Choudhuri is more renowned than Prof. R. C. Majumder. Nowhere did I mention R C Majumdar who is certainly regarded as an outstanding historian . But he was never an economic historian unlike Choudhuri, Benoy Bhushan Chaudhuri and Sabyasachi Bhattacharya and Irfan Habib who too made pioneering research on Moghul economy and agrarian development during the period.
Permit me to say that Majumdar in one of his last lectures on Bengal renaissance stated that the Muslim period was under "an alien rule" , but the British rule was no alien. This was in sync with the Cambridge School which dishes out a rehash of colonial slander that Bengal renaissance was "dependent enlightenment" . Brijen Gupta, and Marshall are among those who are trying their best to refute Naoroji, Ramesh Chandra Dutt etc. Their research studies were reviewed in Indian historical journals and EPW too, as far as I remember.
One day these scholars may edge out proponents of 'drain theory' , including RPD.
Words like "cheap emotions of winning a debate, or loyalty to anything but facts" are Mr Das's own charactisation of himself and are too puerile to be replied. I am among those who do not think they can evaluate themselves.
Finally despite nearly four decades of teaching, Mr Das misquotes: "Nationalism is the last refuge of scoundrels" . It's patriotism and Johnson published this in April 1775.
