Autistic Children's Welfare Foundation, Bangladesh(ACWFB) is organizing a workshop for creating social awareness and training for parents and professionals/trainers/carers on Autism and strategies to overcome the every day challenges faced on 18 and 19 Nov 2008. The workshop will also focus on bringing up, schooling and teaching and finally highlight how adults are to be rehabilitated in the main stream society. During the workshop, some leading experts of both home and abroad will speak on Autism and host seminars providing an opportunity to share expertise and experience at different levels. We are optimistic and delighted to bringing together professionals, researchers, parents, carers and people on the spectrum to listen, contribute and interact to make it truly wonderful opportunity for learning and shearing. 

 

The workshop shall address following issues and will benefit parents, professionals, trainers and carers:

  • Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder
    •  What is Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?
    • What are the signs, what causes ASD and what are the treatment available ?
  • Prognosis and Intervention Procedure- Prognosis and Various teaching /intervention procedures in Autism
  • Independent Daily Leaving
    • Toileting – Sufferings, habit and expression of the need.
    • Personal Hygiene - Washing, bathing, brushing teeth, Cutting Nails and Hair etc.
    • Grooming – Dressing, Personal Preparation, Self Supporting etc.
    • Sleeping Disorder- How to deal with it.  
  • Developing Communication and Sensory Issues.
    • Speech Therapy / Teaching Signs / Picture Exchange Communication System.
    • Creating an environment that encourages communication.
    • Sensory Issues.
  • Socialization and Challenging Behaviours
    • Strategies for Dealing with Difficult and Challenging behaviours incl tantrum and temper.
    • How do we socialize the children affected by ASD.
    • How should we develop social awareness.

·        Family Support : Professional Vs. Personal

o       How do we support families who has some one in ASD?

o       Where are the Professionals and how to reach them ?

o       In absence of Professionals how the members of the family and parents can support.

·        How to Support Adults with ASD /AS/ HFA

o       Puberty and Sexuality in ASD

o       How to Deal with Difficult and Challenging behaviours of Adults ?

·        Related Issues in Autism

    • Food and other supplement including Biomedical Intervention
    • Autism and Epilepsy

·        Teaching Academics - Challenges for parents and available facilities in Bangladesh.

·        Prospects and Procedure to rehabilitate Autism affected Adults in Bangladesh
