In the political arena, under a true democracy, things get done only through popular public outcries and public demands. The politicians only react to those demands. Politicians, at all cost, want to avoid going against the public opinion, unless they are part of a muscleman democracy. I fervently hope that we are not in such a democracy in Bangladesh. Therefore, people of Bangladesh must generate public opinion in support of the Tribunal for the War Crimes. Jiten Roy

Only it is the political government/politicians can ensure the trial. Delay in trial does not mean the end of our aspiration for trial. Those who defend criminals are equally criminals. Shah Hannan belongs to this category. Therefore, he should also be tried along with other criminals for the crime they committed in 1971. But who will put them on trial? Do the leaders in Bangladesh have the political will to do this? I have my doubt. People like Shah Hannan have friends and well-wishers in high positions in Bangladesh and its political leaders have no courage or stomach to take them on.
