I will close this discussion here. I am sure you can all understand that this is not about facts that one can debate, these are ideological positions first and foremost and they will be held until some internal change acts to change them.
I am sure we will revisit the topic in the future, but for now, I will stop.
About Mullah Omar's regime being the best in a 100 years, we will let the Afghan people judge that...the ones I have met would reply to this statement with

hairaaN hooN dil ko ro'ooN ki peetooN jigar ko maiN
maqdoor ho to saath rakhooN nauhaagar ko maiN

Akhtar sb said: Even Gandhi stated that the best government was that of Abu Bakr and Umer.

When and where did Gandhi say this? Sources?

Akhtar sb said: Under extremely difficult circumstances in spite of great world opposition Mullam Omer had set up a better govt than anyone in afghanistan in the last 100 years.

Please explain this quantitatively and qualitatively, Akhtar sb. How was Mullah Omar's "government" better than previous regimes in Afghanistan? Is stoning widows to death when they go out to try and feed their children = "better" governance? Is caging women within walls = "better" governance? Or is making the people of the country so miserable that they'd rather live in camps on foreign soil = "better" governance? Is ruining any and all industry except poppy-agriculture and arms smuggling = "better" governance?

Akhtar sb said: You should read John Perkins book to see how great secularism is.

Rhetoric again. Secularism is not anti-religion, Akhtar sb. It just says that your religion is your business, and no one else's. You will not impose your faith on anyone else and vice versa, primarily because the State will have nothing to do with the business of the "Divine".

Akhtar sb said: Inshallah I will write more in the future

Oh no.

I've been reading Akhtar sb's mails on this list, and I can't take it anymore. Honestly, I'm bewildered. I mean, I'd understand if people from my generation said stuff of this sort, given that we were born during Ziaul Haq's era and were brought up on a constant dose of this nonsense; but I honestly don't understand why and how people who were brought up under "better times" adhere to this insanity. Can someone explain this to me please?
