During the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh millions Bengalis were killed and thousands of women were raped by the occupying military of Pakistan and their local collaborating para militia forces known as Razakars, Al Badr & Al Shams (members of Jamaat-e-Islam, Muslim League, Nezami Islam and other sectarian fundamentalist groups).

The Military and the majority of the local collaborators never stood trial for their war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity. A number of alleged war criminals fled Bangladesh immediately after the war and took refuge in the UK. In recent times the fundamentalists have re-emerged as an organised dark force in Bangladesh.

The sectarian fundamentalists want to cripple and destroy Bangladesh and everything it stands for - democracy, freedom, equality and tolerance.

In the UK a number of Bengali political & campaigning groups have organised a public meeting, in solidarity with the families who lost their loved ones, to demand that the war criminals (including alleged war criminals who are now residing in the UK) and killers of 1971 be put on trial (under Geneva convention) for crimes committed against humanity.
