Re: [ALOCHONA] RE: Where is ICNA sending its "donation" for cyclone victims?

Dear Ms. Farida Majid,

Peace and Greetings!

I remember meeting you briefly at either 2003 or 2004 NABIC Annual Convention held at the York College in Jamaica, NY. I am disappointed to know that you left the convention with an impression about NABIC which cannot be further from the truth.

For your information let me point out some of the facts about NABIC:
  1. You have written in your e-mail the full name of NABIC incorrectly. NABIC stands for North American Bangladeshi Islamic Community (NOT Circle). I am sure your mistake was unintentional and not to show an association with ICNA, the Islamic Circle of North America. NABIC has no formal relationship with ICNA, but occasionally may work together on certain projects as we do with many other organizations in North America.
  2. NABIC has no hidden agenda. It is a membership based organization with the elections for Board of Directors held regularly. One of the missions of NABIC is to promote proper understanding and awareness of Islam among the people of Bangladeshi heritage in North America. This mission has taken an added importance in post 9/11 world where Islam is being defined incorrectly by both the religious extremists in one side and the secular fundamentalist on the other side.
  3. The other main mission of NABIC is to support (mostly financially) various development, relief and rehabilitation projects in Bangladesh. NABIC accomplish this via its multiple partners comprising both Islamic minded and secular NGOs. Among the projects financed by NABIC are a Rural Piped Water Supply Project in Chapai Nawabgonj; a small hospital in Madhabpur, Hobigonj' Poverty Alleviation through Micro-Credit programs in 5 districts; a dental clinic and a hospital in Gaibandha; a glaucoma identification and treatment facility in Mirpur, Dhaka; and a cancer patient support center in Shamoli, Dhaka. Also, for the past 5 years NABIC has been providing travel grants to BUET and DU teams attending the World Finals of the Inter Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC). One of the projects NABIC is actively considering is building a gas or electric fired crematory for the poor Hindus in Gaibandha area. Besides, NABIC has been providing funds to various organizations for emergency relief and rehabilitation. Couple of weeks ago, I personally handed over a $25,000 check for the Chief Advisor's Relief and Welfare Fund to Advisor Mr. Tapan Chowdhury.
  4. Lastly, as far as religious identification go, NABIC was founded by and its membership is comprised of Muslims of Bangladeshi heritage and it operated on the basis of the core values of Islam. There are hundreds organizations in the West with religious identifications e.g., Methodist, Baptist and Jewish hospitals, well known charities like Catholic Charities or American Jewish World Service, and political parties like the Christian-Democratic Union (in power in Germany).

Best wishes,
Abu Bakar Ahmed
Executive Secretary, NABIC

Ms. Farida Majid:

I was rather surprised with this note of yours slandering some Islamic organizations including NABIC in extremely harsh language. While personally I am not a member of NABIC but to the best of my knowledge most of the members are well educated, decent, peace-loving professionals and educators of very high caliber. Their projects have to deal with helping the rural poor including women in Bangladesh.

If you do not care about their agenda (helping the rural Bangladeshi poor) then that is alright but please resist the temptation of jumping into the criticism of any thing Islamic and tying every thing to 1971. Most of the members of NABIC were either not born in 1971 or were minors.

Thank you if you read my humble note with an open mind.

Yes, this is interesting and frightening!

I have had the dubious fortune of meeting some of the members of ICNA (Islamic Circle of North America) and in 2004 I had attended a conference of NABIC (North American Bangladeshi Islamic Circle) held at York College of CUNY.  I shuddered in fear at their agenda hidden well away from their apparent love of 'Islam above all'.

Mr. Md. Rahman, they are all of your ilk and mindset.

Their "generous and good work" consists of their hell-bent commitment to Islamize Bangladesh in the demonic image of their version of ONE dehumanized Islam. Towards that aim they would first have to destroy the Bangladesh that was founded in 1972 on the noble principles behind Muktijuddho . They envision success in this henous project, hence their talk of "Bangladesh is on the brink of Extinction."

Their "generous and good work" consists of raising funds in the USA and Canada and financing covert terrorist activities and armed confrontation of various Islamist groups against innocent civilians.

Hurricane Sidr has brought a golden opportunity to them for reaping a harvest out of people's sympathy for the plight of the stricken poor.

The whole lot of you should be ashamed of your nefarious "Islamic" agenda of fooling, cheating and then hurting people!

You are worse than the 13th century ASSASINS in Arabia.

You are heartless and inhuman!

You should ask ICNA where they sending their donation rather belittling their generous and good work. Try to appreciate their help, ICNA is sending their donation to trust worthy people and it will be used one hundred percent for the cyclone victims. What you have done for the cyclone victims ? You are echoing with Mr Bahauddin Inqilabs editor who is a big time defaulter with big mouth become intolerant to Jamaat and criticizing for taking a long term plan of two croes taka for permanent rehabilitation of the cyclone victims. We should learn to encourage people in good works.
