Dear members,

Assalamu Alaikum.Madam Farida Majid has not understood me properly. My point is if in any country Muslim majority wants to live by Islamic public law ( as against personal law which will be as per each community's own desire or law ) as reflected through free election , they should be allowed to do so. They should not be obliged to live by English or French or Swiss law.

If however, majority does not want so they have to live by the law made by the Parliament in the area of public law.In that case they and other communities will have religious rights and human rights like all other communities.

In the present shape of Bangladesh constitution with Islam as its pillar and basis of state action was approved in a referendum in which 95 (ninety five ) percent people approved the Islamic provisions in the constitution, the restoration of the right of the faith communities to form their parties, restoration of multy-party democracy. This is more democratic than 1972 constitution in its first stage as then the constitution was not put to referendum

Awami League had also no mandate for secularism or banning Islamic parties.Their mandate was ( in the electoral manifesto of 1970 ) for not to take any step against the Quran and Sunnah. As such it was necessary in 1972 to put the constitution to a referendum which they failed to do.
