This is an article by Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar on the issues of trying the war criminals and banning religion-based politics in Bangladesh. The article argues that the alleged war criminals must be tried to heal the wounds on the nation's psyche created by their heinous crimes and to make the nation forward-looking. Using the experiences of the contest between Mr. Delawar Hossain Sayedee and late Sudhangshu Shekhar Halder in Pirojpur-1 election in 2001, the article illustrates how religion is nakedly used by some interested quarters in politics in Bangladesh. The article also addresses the issues of the legality and justifications of banning the religion-based politics in our country.
